Ping would kill at App discovery. Kill.

Just read a good article on “Why Ping Is the Future of Social Commerce”. And it said that we love to talk about music, movies and books and why Ping would be so awesome for new content discovery and it struck me that it would only be a matter of time before Ping includes other content besides music, like Apps.

iTunes already knows what apps we bought and there is already Genius that uses some algo to recommend you apps that you might like based on that but what would really be a killer feature would be social recommendations of Apps that your friends are using. There are already lots of startups in this space like Appolicious, Chomp, Appsaurus and I really wonder how these guys would fare if Ping included Apps.

If Apple could include other statistics like frequency of usage and recency of purchase, Ping could potentially blow the competition right out of the park. And I’m sure that there are a lot more metrics it could include to make social recommendations a lot more meaningful.
